A quick update as we close on the 2018 Spring season. Please remember to register as an SLA coach and complete the requirements as detailed in the confirmation email. Also, some changes to the SLA operating model are in place for 2018, as well as some important dates that are upcoming.
SLA will offer "Local Rec" playing option at all age groups where possible in an effort to provide additional opportunities for new and inexperienced players to learn the game before jumping into NVYLL competition.
To play on an NVYLL team, players must "opt-in" during registration and attend the NVYLL team assessments to have the opportunity to make a roster. The NVYLL option expires on Feb 9, with assessments beginning on Feb 10. (Note: these dates are driven by the fact that we must tell the league on Feb 14 our teams and levels for the 2018 season. We will only play NVYLL at 10U, 12U and 14U age groups).
Please note, the Feb 11th Marymount event is the annual NVYLL rule changes review and clinic, which will be followed by a USL Level 1 Certification Clinic. Included in the NVYLL portion of the day will be a presentations on the Lacrosse Athlete Development Model (LADM) and practice planning and an on-field session with the Marymount men's team. Keynote speaker will be Maryland Head Coach John Tillman. You must register for each event on Feb 11th separately; the NVYLL portion is free and the Level 1 clinic will be reimbursed by SLA if you complete a USL Level 1 certification (see requirements here).
Certification as a coach gives our organization additional credibility with parents, other lacrosse organizations as well as Stafford County as we pursue a renewal of our agreement to be the sole youth rec lacrosse provider in Stafford County. Attendance at the Marymount event by SLA coaches has been very low in recent years and I hope that you will consider attending and also completing a level 1 certification if you don't already have it.
